Devnagri Font Map

A simple page that shows AMS / Preeti codes for Devanagari characters. Use it to copy codes or check how old fonts map letters.

What is a Devnagri Font Map?

It is a list that shows how Devanagari letters and signs are typed in old fonts like AMS and Preeti. These fonts do not use Unicode. Each Devanagari character maps to a Latin key or symbol (for example, क → s).

Why this is useful

  • Convert old AMS/Preeti text to modern Unicode.
  • Type correctly when using legacy fonts.
  • Fix documents that use non-Unicode Devanagari fonts.

How to use this page

  1. Find the Devanagari character in the list (or use search on the site).
  2. Copy the code shown next to the character.
  3. Paste the code into your AMS/Preeti converter or editor.

Tip: On mobile, use the row view for easier reading and tap to copy codes.

What this map includes

  • Vowels and matras (अ, आ, इ, ई, उ, ऊ, ए, ओ, etc.)
  • Consonants and half-letters (क–ह, क्, त्, द्, etc.)
  • Nukta forms and special letters (क़, ख़, ग़, ज़, फ़, etc.)
  • Conjuncts (क्ष, त्र, ज्ञ, श्र and others)
  • Digits and punctuation (०–९ and symbols)

Who should use this

  • Typists working with old Devanagari/Nepali files
  • Developers building converters or tools
  • Students learning legacy typing systems
  • Anyone converting documents from Preeti/AMS to Unicode

Short example

Some common mappings:

  • क → s
  • फ → km
  • ज्ञ → 1
  • क्ष → If
  • ८ → *
